Restorative Dentistry

Fillings

A filling repairs and restores the surface of a tooth that has been damaged by decay, wear, or a fracture. Fillings are normally silver or tooth colored. At Smith Family Dentistry, we only use tooth colored material.

Root Canal Therapy

An Endodontic treatment saves a severely injured, cracked, or decayed tooth. When its pulp (nerve) becomes infected. If it is not treated promptly the result is either severe pain or a dental abscess.

Tooth Colored Fillings

A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay or cracks/fractures from an old amalgam (silver) filling.  Composite fillings can be closely matched to the color of your existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or visible areas of the mouth. Good oral hygiene practices at home, eating habits and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.

Extractions

Sometimes a tooth is beyond saving. Excessive tooth decay that has compromised the integrity of the tooth, infection, risk of infection, an abscessed tooth, or damage to the pulp may be reasons a tooth needs to be removed.

After careful examination, the dentist may decide to have a tooth extracted. Before the tooth is removed, the dentist will take an x-ray to understand the shape and position of the tooth in the bone. Based on the degree of difficulty, we may refer you to a specialist called an Oral Surgeon.
